Information on Chiropractic Care and Treatment

What is a Chiropractor?
A Chiropractor is a physician who deals with the nervous system. Interference of the nervous system can be caused by a subluxated vertebrae. When the function of the nervous system is altered by a subluxation it can cause pain, degeneration, and possibly organ dysfunction. A chiropractor manually adjusts the spine restoring normal motion and proper position to allowing proper function.
What is a Subluxation?
A chiropractic subluxation is an interference in the normal motion, function, or position of the vertebral joint which causes dysfunction. Can I go to a chiropractor if I'm not in pain? Yes, you most certainly can! Pain is not always manifest if there is a problem with the nervous system. A Doctor of Chiropractic can remove the interference causing the nervous system dysfunction before the symptoms begin. It also allows your immune system to function to it's maximum capability. This is what is called preventative care.
Do I always feel pain when I have a subluxation?
No, pain is not always present when you have a subluxation. When you have a subluxation pain can be immediate, or it can take much longer to manifest itself as pain. The reason why many people see chiropractors is for preventative care. They may not feel pain but they do have a vertebral subluxation which may cause pain at a later date.
How often should I see a Chiropractor?
There are two types of patients who see health care professionals. The first patient is actively involved with there health and will try to prevent the problem before it starts. This is why many people go and have their teeth cleaned every six months at the dentist. Similar to dental patients chiropractic patients go to their chiropractor once a month for preventative care. The second type of patient is not actively involved in there health and only seeks health care when they are in pain. So the real question is: What kind of patient are you?
